thoughts

Written a few days ago…

Today, I came home at lunch and made myself blueberry pancakes for lunch. I cooked them on a higher setting than my pancake expert husband does because I’m that impatient.  I thought about how some people might think that’s weird, that I’m having pancakes for lunch, and about how much I love having breakfast multiple times a day. During my pregnancy, I literally ate breakfast 3 meals a day for months. I could not stomach the idea of having something oniony tasting, and you couldn’t get me near chicken.

I thought about having more babies (yes, we will have another baby, no, it’s not now, no don’t know when and wouldn’t tell if I did anyway) and how much our girl has truly grown into a little girl and out of a baby girl. I thought about what the challenges would be, how many times I said to myself “how am I going to do this with 2 kids ever!?” and about how fun it would be for Paisley to have a sibling to play and fight with on the weekends.

I thought about my own personal goals and how career goals and family goals are tied together and so completely separate in many ways.

I thought about my girl’s birthday and Christmas and how much I love our little life together.

I thought about her little tiny self standing in front of our big front door saying cheese because mommy told her to on her first day of ‘school’ this year and how proud we are of her. Don’t make me bust out the baby pictures again!

diaper baby (don’t make me potty train)

The diaper.

Everyone loves a diapered baby, right? There was a short minute there where we thought our diaper days were close to over. Paisley spent an entire day using the potty and only having one accident in a 12 hour period. We thought, wow. 18 months and she is ready. The next morning, we got up, and asked her if she wanted to use the potty.

“No.”

Hmm. Okay. So, I brought her in the bathroom, showed it to her, and offered it to her again.

Terrified, she clings to me. Doesn’t want to go near it, use it, or even sit on it.

Okay…so we don’t push. And she hasn’t' used it more than twice since then.

But as you know, I was sad to have a crawler, even more devastated to have a walker, and don’t mind a diapered baby, either. :)

So am I okay with her not being potty trained?

Yes.

water, in french.

Lately, Paisley has been referring to water as “au-lauther”, like water, with a ‘th’ and an ‘l’, and don’t forget the French part, she likes to add ‘au’ in front. It’s a crack up. If none of that made sense to you, then moving on…

We have been spending time in the water as much as possible. Not used to it being 112, not used to being sweaty, not used to staying inside all day LONG! Even at seven in the evening, we are looking for ways to cool down.

Take my girl, post daycare and dinner, in a jammie shirt. Sprinklers? Why not? We’ve been waiting for these moments, ya know?

I was teaching her how to yell ‘stars and stripes!’ while she was running with the flag. I’m sure my neighbors love us…(and if you are thinking she is going to slip and the flag is going to go through her eye socket, I’m glad we are on the same page).

When the sprinklers turned off, she asked daddy for more water.

She was good and shivering by the end of this (in 100+ degrees?, yeah) so I think we did our job of cooling her off :)

She’s also been introduced to the shower recently.

Oh boy.

summertime stuff

We finally got the grass installed in our backyard! We are still waiting a little while to be on it, but Miss Pea loves it and our backyard is much nicer looking and cooler. Up next: patio furniture, plants around  the border, and my husband’s mega garden in the other third of the backyard!

It’s been super sticky and hot here (yuck!) so we’ve been trying to enjoy our summer. A carwash was in order for Daddy’s truck and Paisley loved helping.

What else is new? Paisley’s communication has RAPIDLY improved over the last few weeks. It’s not like it was ever a problem, but I just feel like she is growing up more than ever. She can identify a circle, heart, triangle, and star now with no problems, she is understanding our questions and responding with yes and no, and she will even repeat herself and motion if we are not understanding her. It’s so great! In less than two weeks, she is moving up to the next level at her CDC. It’s going to be so sad to say goodbye to the girls (teachers) that have been like second mothers to her this past year. She is so ready to move up though and get to do more things with the big kids. I’m sure it will be no problem for her, just for me
She also got a big girl car seat this week…forward facing-YES! I ordered this one (in Sophia) and I am in love with it. She’ll have it up to 70 lbs., so it’s a great investment.
What else…? A little Olympics, a lot of cleaning, a little outta town shopping, and daddy’s been cooking and baking…yum :)

a glimpse into my future

IMG_1969

I kinda felt like I had walked in on a teenager.

Please take note that she has attempted to dock my Iphone.

Please take note of her leg as she leans against the bed.

Please take note of the look on her face (as if I was invading her privacy).

Thank the lord she is sucking on a binky or I would have surely thought she was 15.
